What is CBD?

Scientists have long studied the body's system that is responsible for appetite, sleep, mood, pain, and other similar functions. This is often referred to as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Many plants contain compounds, such as CBD, that researchers believe may affect these processes in the body. CBD is just one of 400 different components found in the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD does not "get you high" as it is not psychoactive like the more familiar, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is found in marijuana.

Is CBD Safe/legal/etc?

Safety: CBD is safe when used correctly. However, you should always research any new product before using including what dosages you may require. There are many websites with information. We recommend starting with health.com/pain/what-is-cbd

Legality: Laws change regularly as more discoveries are being made and it is up to each state to determine whether or not CBD products are allowed. For more information, please visit safeaccessnow.org/state_and_federal_law or cbdcentral.com/is-cbd-legal/

Drug Tests:  CBD should not show up on a drug test. However, some athletes in certain sports may be subjected to highly sensitive tests and may potentially test positive for trace amounts of THC if CBD is used for an extended period.

What is CBD used for?

There are many scientific studies available to learn more about what researchers are finding out about CBD. Scientists are researching CBD's effects on the body's responses to pain, anxiety, mood disorders, eating problems, and more.

One very important study led to FDA approval for Epidiolex (which contains CBD) for prescription use in treating certain types of epilepsy. At this time, it is the only FDA-approved CBD-related medication. However, further studies are being conducted to study CBD's potential for other uses.

For example, a recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, found that CBD significantly reduced chronic pain and inflammation in laboratory rats and mice. Another study, which was published in Addictive Behaviors, found that smokers who used CBD inhalers smoked fewer cigarettes and had reduced nicotine cravings. It is also being studied for potential use in reducing other addiction disorders including opioid addiction and other substance abuse disorders. Results are promising in its potential to reduce withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, physical pain, and insomnia.

Of course, more research is necessary. However, with these promising findings, we are excited to be a part of this industry.
